The inclined plan: A mathematical modeling activity

Este artigo se constitui no relato de uma experiência de ensino realizada nas aulas das disciplinas de matemática e ciências, com alunos de duas turmas de oitava série do ensino fundamental. É o relato de uma das atividades de uma sequência didática desenvolvida para explorar as três formas de representação de uma função matemática e também para estudar o movimento de queda livre dos corpos. A principal atividade desenvolvida se constitui na montagem e realização do célebre experimento de Galileu com o plano inclinado. Assim, foi realizada uma atividade experimental onde se fez uso das funções enquanto linguagem estruturante no estudo de um fenômeno físico, nesse caso, do movimento de rolagem de esferas sobre um plano inclinado.
This article itself constitutes an account of a teaching experience carried out in mathematics and science classes, with two groups of students of the eighth grade of elementary school. It is the report of a sequence didactic activities developed to explore three representation forms of a mathematical function and also to study the motion of free falling bodies. The main activity developed constituted itself in the assembly and accomplishment of itself the celebrated experiment by Galileo with his inclined plan. Therefore, an experimental activity was carried out where functions were used while structuring language in the study of a physical phenomenon, in this case, from the motion of spheres rolling down on an inclined plan.
