Abstract

A major challenge in clinical practice of the professional in Phisiotherapy, especially in the area of neurological rehabilitation is to provide to the patient an experience of motor learning, which is characterized as a change in the ability to perform activities as a function of practice or experience. In this sense, this study examined a clinical practice in Physiotherapy, which aimed to motor learning, in order to understand how can be established connections with the scientific learning - learning content of the Science. In other words, the aim was to investigate whether the intellectual development favors Motor Learning. In this analysis, the theoretical contribution was the theory of intellectual development described by Vygotsky. According to this author, the true essence of the complex human behavior occurs from the dialectical unity of symbolic activity (speech) and practical activity. The individual, to internalize the experience provided by the Culture, no longer rely on external signs and begins to rely on internalized resources (images, mental representations, concepts, etc.). So our relationship with the world is mediated through the auxiliary tools, which may be signs and instruments. The body is one of those tools, because mediates our relationship with the objects, but also is a sign that mediates the relationship with the psyche and with others. In order to analyze the relationship between the symbolic activity and practical activity, we performed a qualitative survey which the instrument of data collection was participant observation carried out during the workshops for the development of intellectual learning and motor learning. These workshops were developed from the adaptation of the workshops Hand Science Project (USP), which deal with the physical concepts about human movement. The study subjects were 3 (three) children, between 7 (seven) and 12 (twelve) years, suffering from neuromotor duly enrolled in elementary schools teaching in Teresópolis (RJ), in physiotherapy treatment at the Clinic School of Physiotherapy UNIFESO, and the physiotherapist who coordinates activities with the children at the clinic. The workshops took the children to the intellectual learning process and motor skills, allowing to see that the mediation constitutive of the intellectual learning construction was able to transform the motion of the bodies of subjects analyzed. The results point to a rapprochement between the two types of development: intellectual and motor, including the possibility the enhancement of motor learning, by the approach to scientific learning. This allows the consideration of the professional practice of Physiotherapy approaches beyond the merely clinicals form and allows room for the Teaching of Science at the interface with the issues of Health.
