Abstract

Our proposal for a multimodal research activity (MRA) sought to unite the autonomy of research methodology with the deepening learning advocated by research in multimode and multiple representations. It was applied in the degree course in chemistry, introductory physics course in two consecutive semesters, and a accompanied by qualitative and quantitative assessment. Most students considered the MRA better than traditional education, especially in motivation and understanding of content. The students answered at the beginning and end of the semester, the Force Concept Inventory – FCI and also by the Likert scale questionnaire on two variables: ¨the goal orientation of learning achievement¨ and ¨personal strategy study¨. The FCI indicated that the gain reached by the MRA was higher than the gain allocated to traditional teaching presented in the literature. The Likert scale questionnaire showed that the students presented at the end of the semester a higher degree of motivation to learn physics.
