Abstract

One of the aims of science education is to introduce students to practices of the scientific community, as well as to develop strategies for the citizenship education. One way to achieve these objectives is to articulate the teaching of investigative practices, scientific concepts and decision-making processes, which is still rare in the context of the Early Years of Elementary School. In this paper, we discuss these articulations through the application of a sequence of inquiry science lessons in a 2nd graders class. In this sequence, the group experienced an authentic problem, when Black-tufted-ear Marmoset approached the school to get food and the children began to negotiate a decision about how to interact with the animals. The results indicate how the teacher can foster productive questions related to the impact of human actions on the environment and develop an integration of different objectives of science education using inquiry.
