Everyday situations of thermal expansion as motivation to study this topic in 9th grade of elementary school

Neste artigo relata-se uma experiência de ensino do tema dilatação térmica, na disciplina de Ciências do 9° ano do Ensino Fundamental, em uma escola privada de uma cidade da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre, RS. Tendo como fundamentação teórica a teoria da aprendizagem significativa de David Ausubel buscamos desenvolver a proposta a partir das concepções prévias dos alunos a respeito do tema. Pela pouca maturidade em uma linguagem matemática formal, procuramos dar maior ênfase a exemplos cotidianos relacionados à dilatação térmica além de conceitos deste tema. Percebemos os alunos motivados com situações cotidianas apresentadas por eles, sentiram-se instigados a procurar a explicação de alguns fenômenos físicos percebidos através observações realizadas no seu dia a dia.
In this paper it is reported an experience of teaching the subject thermal expansion in the subject Sciences for the 9th grade of elementary school in a private school of a city in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. According with the theoretical foundation of the meaningful learning theory of David Ausubel the objective was to develop a proposal from the students´ prior conceptions about the subject. Given their little maturity in formal mathematical language, greater emphasis was placed on examples related to daily expansion beyond thermal concepts of this subject. We motivated the students with everyday situations presented by them, they felt encouraged to seek the explanation of some physical phenomena perceived through observations made in their day to day.
