Promoting meaningful learning of basic concepts of astronomy in the shaping of secondary level teachers

Neste relato, apresentamos o processo de elaboração e de desenvolvimento de uma proposta didática sobre conceitos básicos de astronomia, pedagogicamente fundamentada na Aprendizagem Significativa. A proposta didática foi desenvolvida por meio de um curso de extensão com um grupo de 13 estudantes concluintes do curso de formação de professores em nível médio de uma escola pública da cidade de Passo Fundo, RS. O foco do trabalho centrou-se no ensino de conceitos básicos de astronomia. Desenvolveu-se a metodologia de ensino com a abordagem de tais conceitos a partir das concepções presentes na estrutura cognitiva dos estudantes. Os indícios da aprendizagem significativa foram obtidos por meio de instrumentos de pesquisa e avaliação, como mapas conceituais e representações dos conteúdos estudados, em que os estudantes foram solicitados a transpor os assuntos abordados em novos contextos. Os resultados obtidos nos questionários de verificação da aprendizagem chegaram a 84% de acertos. Através dos registros dos encontros e das representações por desenhos dos conceitos obtidos, observou-se que os estudantes compreenderam genuinamente os assuntos abordados. Os mapas conceituais demonstraram que os estudantes foram capazes de estabelecer uma diferenciação progressiva e uma reconciliação integrativa dos conceitos. Assim, conclui-se que uma metodologia com enfoque em um conteúdo significativo ao estudante é fundamental para desenvolver nele o prazer pela ciência, a construção de significado e a valorização do que está sendo aprendido.
In this report, we present the process of drawing up and developing a didactic proposal about basic concepts of Astronomy, based pedagogically on Meaningful Learning. The didactic proposal has been developed by means of an extension course with a group of 13 students of the shaping course of secondary level teachers of a public school of the town of Passo Fundo, RS. The focus of the work aimed at the teaching of basic concepts of Astronomy. One has developed the teaching methodology with the approach of such concepts following from the conceptions which are present in the students’ cognitive structure. The traces of meaningful learning have been obtained by means of instruments of research and evaluation, such as conceptual maps and role playing of the studied contents where the students were asked to transpose the approached subjects into new contexts. The obtained results from the learning questionnaires reached the rate of 84% hits. Through the registers of the meetings and the representations by drawings of the obtained concepts, one has noticed that the students have genuinely understood the approached subjects. The conceptual maps have shown that the students were able to establish a progressive differentiation and an integrative reconciliation of the concepts. Thus, one concludes that a methodology focused on the meaningful concept is fundamental for the students to develop in themselves the pleasure in science, the building of meaning and the appreciation of what is being learned.
