50 years of Phylogenetic Systematics: book review of Phylogenetic, first steps and prospections on teaching evolution

Em 2016 comemoramos 50 anos da publicação do Phylogenetic Systematics, obra máxima de Willi Hennig. Hennig propôs que as classificações biológicas deveriam ser entendidas no contexto da ancestralidade comum, refletindo as relações de parentesco entre os organismos e incorporando o princípio fundamental da evolução. Apesar de suma importância para o entendimento da Biologia como um todo, a ausência de material didático na língua portuguesa dificulta o estabelecimento da sistemática biológica para os diferentes níveis de escolaridade no país. Recentemente, foi lançado o livro Filogenética: primeiros passos, que visa suprir tal necessidade. No entanto, algumas considerações devem ser feitas quanto à forma e ao conteúdo apresentados. O presente trabalho faz uma resenha do livro supracitado e algumas prospecções para o ensino de Sistemática Filogenética à luz do cinquentenário da obra prima de Hennig.
In 2016 we celebrate 50 years of the publication of Phylogenetic Systematics, Willi Hennigs magnum opus. Hennig proposed that biological classifications should be understood in the context of common ancestry, reflecting the relationships among organisms and incorporating the fundamental principle of evolution. Although extremely important for understanding biology as a whole, the lack of textbooks in Portuguese concerning this subject hampers the establishment of biological systematics in different levels of education. Recently, a textbook named Phylogenetic: first steps was published, aiming to fill this need. However, some considerations must be pointed regarding its content. The present paper is a review of the aforementioned book, with some prospects for teaching Phylogenetic Systematics in the light of the fiftieth anniversary of Hennigs master piece.
