Mathematical use in mathematical modelling activities: a high school research

Este artigo visa investigar o uso matemático feito por alunos do Ensino Médio no desenvolvimento de uma atividade de modelagem matemática. A pesquisa versa sobre atividades de modelagem matemática e o currículo de matemática e tem como objetivo geral investigar os caminhos, matemáticos ou não, utilizados por alunos do ensino médio em atividades de modelagem matemática. Dados foram coletados por meio da coleta dos registros escritos dos alunos, bem como de gravação em áudio. Por meio dos procedimentos da pesquisa qualitativa, a análise de dados foi feita com base na metodologia de análise de conteúdo. Os resultados sinalizam o uso de conceitos matemáticos prévios, dificuldades no uso de conceitos matemáticos associados ao currículo do Ensino Médio e como se dá o percurso dos alunos nas fases da modelagem matemática.
This paper aims to investigate the mathematical use by high school students in the development of a mathematical modelling activity. The research deals with mathematical modelling activities and mathematics curriculum and has the general objective to investigate the ways used by high school students in the mathematical modeling activities, mathematical or not mathematical. Data were collected through the collection of students written records, as well as audio recording. Through qualitative research procedures data analysis was based on content analysis methodology. The results indicate prior use of mathematical concepts, difficulty in using mathematical concepts associated with the high school curriculum, and how it is the journey of students in mathematical modeling phases.
