Perceptions of the public high school students about the biotechnology topic

É notória a importância que as diversas técnicas da biotecnologia adquirem nos dias atuais, sendo necessária uma formação flexível dos alunos aos diversos debates que surgem. O estudo objetivou verificar as percepções de alunos do ensino médio público sobre o tema Biotecnologia. Na primeira fase do experimento, realizamos aula expositiva sobre Transgênicos e OGMs, além do diário de campo para registro das observações; e na segunda etapa: aplicação de questionário contendo 10 questões de caráter investigativo. A análise utilizada foi quali-quantitativa. Verificamos que, em relação aos temas Transgênicos e OGMs os alunos apresentaram após seis meses conhecimentos aprimorados, diferente do que foi observado para temas como Projeto Genoma e Células-Tronco, com percepções superficiais. As principais percepções acerca desses dois últimos temas baseiam-se em conceitos simples e pouco associados à formação crítica - para participação em discussões atuais da sociedade.
These findings emphasize the importance of the various biotechnology techniques acquire nowadays, flexible training is required of students to the various debates that arise. The study aimed to verify the perceptions of the public high school students about Biotechnology topic. In the first phase of the experiment, we conducted lecture on Transgenics and GMOs, in addition to the field diary for recording observations; and the second stage: a questionnaire containing 10 investigative character issues. The analysis used was qualitative and quantitative. We found that, in relation to the themes Transgenics and GMOs the students presented after six months improved knowledge, unlike what was observed for subjects such as Genome Project and Stem Cells, with superficial perceptions. The main perceptions are based on simple concepts and little associated with critical training - to participate in current discussions of society.
