Knowledge of students of the seventh year of Fundamental Education on endangered species of extinction

A educação ambiental vem sendo inserida nas escolas como um tema transversal sendo incentivada pelos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais. O entendimento acerca do ambiente e de seus componentes pode ter um expressivo significado na prática social. Identificar os conceitos que os alunos trazem sobre determinados assuntos auxilia o planejamento de práticas pedagógicas inovadoras e não apenas periódicas. Esta pesquisa teve o objetivo de sensibilizar os alunos do sétimo ano do ensino fundamental de duas escolas, uma em Santo Antônio de Pádua-RJ e outra em Miracema-RJ acerca do tema espécies ameaçadas de extinção. A metodologia utilizada foi a construção de desenhos livres objetivando identificar o conhecimento prévio, seguida por uma palestra abordando o tema, especialmente as espécies que ocorrem no estado do Rio de Janeiro e na Mesorregião Noroeste Fluminense. Por último, utilizou-se a construção de tiras em quadrinhos como instrumento de aprendizagem sobre o tema abordado. Os desenhos livres mostraram que os alunos conhecem alguns animais ameaçados de extinção, sobretudo, aqueles mais divulgados pela mídia. A palestra promoveu a ruptura com o conhecimento popular e o transformou em conhecimento científico, o que ficou demonstrado pelas tiras em quadrinhos construídas pelos alunos. Nessas apareceram desenhos ilustrando o tráfico ilegal de animais, a prisão de traficantes de animais, e, o mais importante, desenhos das espécies ameaçadas de extinção que ocorrem no Noroeste Fluminense. Pode-se concluir que esse trabalho contribuiu para o ensino do tema espécies ameaçadas de extinção, principalmente porque em várias tiras em quadrinhos foram ilustradas situações que objetivam sensibilizar os colegas de escola sobre o tema em questão.
Environmental education has been inserted in schools as a cross-cutting theme being encouraged by the National Curricular Parameters. Understanding the environment and its components can have significant meaning in social practice. Identifying the concepts that students bring about certain subjects helps the planning of innovative pedagogical practices and not just periodic ones. This research had the objective of sensitizing the seventh-year elementary students of two schools, one in Santo Antônio de Pádua-RJ and another in Miracema-RJ on the subject of endangered species. The methodology used was the construction of free drawings to identify the previous knowledge, followed by a lecture approaching the theme, especially the species that occur in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the Northwest Fluminense. Finally, the construction of comic strips was used as a learning instrument on the topic addressed. The free drawings showed that the students know about some animals threatened with extinction, especially those more divulged by the media. The lecture promoted the rupture with popular knowledge and transformed it into scientific knowledge, which was demonstrated by the comic strips built by the students. These included drawings illustrating the illegal trafficking of animals, the imprisonment of animal traffickers, and, most important, drawings of the endangered species that occur in the Northwest Fluminense. It can be concluded that this work contributed to the teaching of the subject endangered species, mainly because in several comic strips situations were illustrated that aim to sensitize the school colleagues on the subject in question.
