Abstract

This article aims to analyze possible contributions of a didactic sequence (DS) in the process of Scientific Literacy (SL) of children in the early years of Elementary School. To this end, a DS was developed on the foundations of the SL structural axes (Sasseron, 2008) carried out with a 5th  year class of a state public school. For the production of research data, field notes, student productions and recordings of discussions held in class were used. The data were analyzed using the content analysis technique and organized into categories according to the SL three structural axes: understanding of scientific terms and concepts; understanding of the nature of science and scientific production processes; understanding of relations between science, technology and society. As main results, it was noted that the children presented a significant development of the argument, presenting an articulation of terms and concepts of a scientific nature in the explanation proposal. It was also possible to observe that the contextualization provided by the actions of the DS sensitized the children in the perception of the scientific and technological development impacts. However, although some actions address aspects of the nature of science, it was evident in this research that the expressions of this type of knowledge by children were uncommon during the course of DS.
